What was challenging about implementing the concepts from this week? What came easily?
We performed a brainstorming session to come up with questions for our empathy interviews. It was challenging to uncover the questions for the interview guide. It was even more challenging to identify people to interview. Especially when it appears, we are probing in their personal life. We spent significant time polishing the questions and categorizing them into groups.

How might you use one or more of these concepts in your life (school, work, or otherwise)? Provide specific examples.
Understanding the needs and pain points of either a customer or anyone can foster better interaction with particular individuals. Using a beginner mindset can open our minds to be receptive and seek a different perspective.

What role might the concepts play in entrepreneurship and the development of ideas?
Sharing ideas and welcoming input from others broaden our thinking. Revisiting and polishing the questions removed redundant and repetitive prompts.

What might be the ethical implications of using these concepts?
One thing that comes to my mind is how to get someone to trust me when conducting the interview.

This week’s assignment granted us an opportunity to dive deeper into empathy by asking questions that provoked our counterparty’s emotions. In our brainstorming session, we generated several questions about one’s perception of therapy. While many of these questions focused on ascertaining thoughts on seeking help, we also began to explore their personal situations and circumstances. We realized this was very important but not a path we should pursue further considering the assignment. Thus, brainstorming the questions was easy but finalizing was more of a challenge.

As stated before, these questions provide a better understanding of why one would or would not seek help. It also helps me to relate to others and display how therapy can provide relief. These questions get to the heart of people’s positive and negative perceptions which aid in therapy’s marketability.

Tailoring the questions to focus on perceptions rather than on’s personal feelings virtually eliminated negative ethical implications. I believe we will not have this problem during this portion of the interview stage.

This week, our group focuses on empathy in understanding the new norm about getting therapy. The easy part was coming up with various questions that we can use in interviewing people. The hard part was developing the right question to ask to have the person willingly giving you the information you seek. Often, I would come up with questions based on preconceived answers, asking ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions instead of having the person telling me what they feel and their perception.

Designing a product based on what people want is hard. Because we always fall in love with our own idea of how the product should be or how it would function. Understanding what people want and designing the product around will ensure the continued usage or traction of the product. Human beings are the ones to use the product, so we need to show better empathy and tailor the product around it.
