Problem #1: According to the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were about 16.3 million union workers in 2000 and 14.7 million union workers in 2018.

a. If the change in the number of union workers is considered to be linear, write an equation expressing the number y of union workers in terms of the number x of years since 2000.

b. Assuming that the equation in part “a” remains accurate, use it to predict the number of union workers in 2050.

c. Is the number that you came up with in 1b realistic? Why or why not? What can interfere with the future number of union workers that the equation does not account for?

Problem #2: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 1990, 529,000 people worked in the air transportation industry. In 2018, the number was 498,780.

a. Find a linear equation giving the number of employees in the air transportation industry in terms of x, the number of years since 1990.

b. Assuming the equation remains valid in the future, in what year will there be 400,000 employees in the air transportation industry?

c. Is the number you came up with in 2b realistic? Why or why not? What can interfere with the future number of employees working in the air transportation industry that the equation does not account for?

Problem #3: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated that in 1990, 1.1 million people worked in the truck transportation industry. In 2018, the number was 1.5 million.

a. Find a linear equation giving the number of employees in the truck transportation industry in terms of x, the number of years since 1990.

b. Assuming the equation remains valid in the future, in what year will there be 2.5 million employees in the truck transportation industry?

c. Is the number you came up with in 3b realistic? Why or why not? What can interfere with the future number of employees working in the trucking industry that the equation does not account for?

## UNIT VIII Final Project

Paper details As the newly promoted vice president of human resources (HR), you are an influential member of the decision-making team that will select a country for global expansion.

For this assignment, follow the instructions below.

Develop a chart to compare and contrast the cultures of two specific countries to which your organization is looking to expand. The two countries must be on different continents, and you must use a minimum of 10 criteria from established cultural frameworks.

Write a 500-word synopsis of how culture impacts HR management in a global organization.

Identify two employment laws for each of the two countries you are considering for expansion.

Explain the significance of the laws and how they differ from U.S. laws or laws in your state.

Evaluate how each law could affect your hiring process and/or organization in general.

Identify which of the two countries you will recommend for the global expansion of your organization. Write a 500-word synopsis in which you summarize why you selected that country.

Explain how this choice will benefit your organization.

Finally, develop a hiring strategy for the new location, taking into consideration what you have learned about the country’s laws and culture.

You must use at least three sources to support your project. All sources must be properly cited. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment.

Mergers, Acquisitions, and Reductions in Force

Assignment Overview

Signature Assignment: Written Communication, Emphasized Level

In this assignment, your written communication skills will be assessed. The Written Communication rubric will be useful for this purpose. In MGT302, they were assessed at the “introduced” level. In MGT407, written communication skills were assessed at the “reinforced” level. Finally, in MGT491, your written communication skills will be assessed at the “emphasized” level. The skills needed in these three assignments build on each other and offer you the opportunity to enhance and practice your written communication skills. The grading rubric for written communication at the undergraduate level has been developed to measure student success in meeting the MGT491 SLP 3 expectations. Rubrics for the other two courses are included in their respective assignments.

In this course, MGT491, you will demonstrate the skills you have been practicing in the previous courses in the BSHRM degree program: quantitative reasoning, information literacy, and written communications. Previously, in Module 1, you demonstrated your quantitative reasoning skills. Quantitative reasoning is your analysis of a given set of metrics. In the Module 3 Case assignment, you demonstrated your information literacy skills by finding and selecting the right high-quality sources for a specific topic. In the Module 3 SLP assignment, you will demonstrate your written communications skills. Written communication is how you take information and explain it logically while rationally defending your views on the information presented in an assignment.
