Schizophrenia and Smoking
After reading Chapter 11 and 12 in your course text and the article “Considering the Definition of Addiction” which covers the biological basis of emotion, addiction (substance abuse disorder), and disordered behavior, analyze the high rate of smoking in those diagnosed with schizophrenia compared to the general population.  Why are smoking cessation interventions less successful in these individuals? Review the accepted mechanisms of tobacco abuse and dependence and the etiologic theories of schizophrenia. What are the biological and/or psychological mechanisms between schizophrenia and smoking?  Include information on brain structures, pathways, neurotransmitters/receptors, and psychological factors when discussing the topic areas above.  Additional emphasis should be placed on relating the underlying pathology of schizophrenia to tobacco dependence/abuse and the biological or psychological mechanism of the observed association of smoking behavior to the diagnosis of schizophrenia.    In keeping with the focus of this class, the emphasis should be placed on the role of neurotransmitter and receptor systems, neuroanatomical structures, and neurological functional pathways.  You must use a minimum of one peer-reviewed source that was published within the last five years, documented in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. How does the data support the proposed mechanism in the article you chose?  What other possible mechanisms might explain this relationship?  Is it possible that biology has nothing to do with the relationship between smoking and schizophrenia?  Your post should be a minimum of 250 words.  You may cite and reference your textbook, required reading and/or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.  Guided Response:  Respond substantively to a minimum of two classmate’s original posts that have identified different neurotransmitters than you.  Your responses should address both the neurotransmitter/receptor system and neuroanatomical structures involved for the analysis of the association of smoking behavior and schizophrenia. In addition, please observe the following guidelines for all responses:
Provide a courteous and interactive learning environment.
Continue to monitor the discussion board and reply to anyone who has chosen to respond to your original post.
Your responses should address both the neurotransmitter and receptor system in their discussion, and the biological and/or psychological mechanism that potentially explains the connection between tobacco abuse, dependence, and schizophrenia.
Your responses should demonstrate that you have read the existing replies on the board (in your response, mention information and viewpoints already expressed by existing responses to the same post).

Share with your peers what you plan to do further maximize your strengths and resolve your weaknesses. Use specific examples.Your initial post must be 200 to 300 words in length and posted by Day 3. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two classmates whose writing task strengths and weaknesses are very similar to or very different from your own and offer support for ways to resolve weaknesses. Response posts must be 125 to 200 words in length and posted by Day 7. If you have questions about how to participate in discussions, consult “About Discussions” under the Course Home menu. You are not required to support your claims with additional scholarly materials; however, should you decide to use additional sources, make sure you properly cite any references.

task 1

Paper details There is no need for a PowerPoint, the 1 slide is for the 200-300 words writing. And for the 2 pages speaker note, please introduce the 10 (could be more or less) images. Also, please let me know which artist did you choose once you have decided.

1. Select one artist of interest:
Bring an exciting artist (must relate the artist to photography) to the attention of our class! From famous historical iconic figures, international artists working all over the world, young talented emerging artists making new strides every day, established contemporary leaders; any great artist is welcome.

2. Research:
The artist you select should be established, or show great promise, have major projects to show, books in the library to view, recognition or underappreciated relevance, etc. In order to give an engaging presentation, become familiar with their work, analyze and describe your observations, view as many images, and read essays and articles about the artist, write down visual analysis notes. Depending on your interest, you might want to present a broad survey of images describing their life’s work, or focus and detail one project, period or style, body of work, single artwork.

3. Write and post about the artist:
Write down the synopsis of your research findings. What have others written about this artist? What have you observed? To analyze and describe your observations you might provide visual analysis and address an artwork’s formal elements such as composition, color, scale and technique. Your contextual analysis may include historical, social readings, or interpretations of meaning. This document should be 200-300 words and must be uploaded to Blackboard.

Elements of Narration and Description

Identify at least two elements that you might use in your Narrative or Descriptive essay, the working rough draft of which is due this week. Describe how you plan to use these elements and what effect you intend for them to have on the reader. You are welcome to post a sample from your working draft to demonstrate how you are incorporating elements of the narrative essay.Your initial post must be 200 to 300 words in length and posted by Day 3. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmate’s responses comparing or contrasting or supplementing the elements you have identified with that of your peers.
